Lee Alexander McQueen, a Brit fashion designer born in Lewisham, London on March seventeen, 1969, is the youngest of the brood of 6. Ronald, hello pop, was a London taxi driver while Joyce, his mother, was a social science teacher. Janet, Tracey, Jacqui, Tony and Michael are the names of his siblings.
At the age of 8, he was sometimes provoked by his schoolmates as McQueer as he seemingly had a growing interest in the fashion industry. When he was 16 years old, he left college and started working for Anderson & Sheppard. He later landed a tutelage program at Savile Row at Gieves & Hawkes, where he served well known characters such as Mikhail Gorbachev and the Prince of Wales, having embroidered a suit for the latter. He requested work as a pattern cutter tutor at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design ( now known as London Central Saint Martins ) and was swayed to enrol as a student following his inspiring credentials. He later launched his degree show in 1991 where the entire line was bought by stylist Isabella Blow. In 1992, he finished his degree and instantly started on his very own womens wear clothing line.
In 1996, he was employed as head designer of the Givenchy fashion line. As he encountered coarse sailing in the company, he sold his share in two thousand to the Gucci Group. McQueen honored his contract with Givenchy and stayed with him until March 2001, the time when the same expired. In the year 2004, McQueen launched his very own line of mens wear and established specialized shops in new york, London, Milan, Las vegas and Melrose Avenue in Los angeles. His designs ultimately became the favourite of well known celebrities such as Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna. By 2005, he created a special line of trainers for Puma caused by a partnership with the latter. He also launched McQ in 2006 which featured a much affordable and younger line for both women and men.
Among McQueens achievements include being accorded English Designer of the Year four times by Britain Fashion Council and Commander of the Order of the English Empire. In 1997, he was personally sought by Iceland frontman Bjork to help work for the cover of her album Homogenic. He at last directed the promo vid of Bjorks song, Alarm call. In 2009, Camilla Belle wore a dress designed by him and which was thereafter listed by Instyle Mag as one of the hundred Best Dresses of the Decade.
McQueen was best known for bringing drama and debate, with some of his collection even being called the Highland Rape. His runaway shows were novel, infusing new twits and energies, and he even started many trends such as low-rise jeans, bumsters, and the use of skulls in designs. He is one of the few designers who started employing Indian models in London. His latest design to date was the manta which was taken after the manta ray.
Unfortunately, McQueen was found dead in his home last Feb 11, 2010, more than week after his mother had died. At that point, he was eighty percent finished on his autumn / winter collection which was presented and picked up by fashion editors at the 2010 Fashion Week in Paris. In May 2010, McQueens long-time assistant took over the reins of the company.
